John Scholz, President
John is a 1987 graduate of The Citadel where he earned his degree in Mathematics and Business Administration. His professional career has been primarily in the DoD Contracting community providing Business, Management Analytics, and Process Engineering professional support services on projects for NASA, the Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Center, the Defense Logistics Agency, Joint Forces Command and several post-9-11 Department of Justice Port Security projects. John is a founding partner of Liberty Business Associates, LLC (2002) that has grown to a 120-person company supporting the Army and Navy across 12 states.
A former Navy Supply Officer stationed in Charleston, John met his wife Amy and settled in Summerville, SC where they raised their sons Michael and Andrew. Michael is now ESI’s VP of Operations and Andrew resides in Nashville, TN.
John and Amy now split their time between SC and TN, but often escape to the warmer waters of South FL.
Michael Scholz, VP of Operations
Michael is the VP of Operations for ESI Insight. His responsibilities include involvement in the daily operations of the Charleston and Nashville offices, as well as, supporting clients with Digital Forensics and E-Discovery projects. He is trained in the areas of Digital Forensics and E-Discovery and has developed curriculum and provided training to attorneys and paralegals. Michael currently holds his ACE, CCLO & CCPA certifications and is also a licensed Private Investigator in South Carolina.
Michael is a 2014 graduate of The Citadel where he obtained his Criminal Justice degree and focused his studies on Forensics and Computer Crime.
Outside of work Michael enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Abby, two children, Hudson and Lainey, and their yellow lab, Remi.
Rodney Van Horn, Director of Operations, SC
Rodney is a retired Police Officer with 23 years of law enforcement experience and has 14 years of experience in the field of Digital Forensics. He has trained in the areas of Investigations and Digital Forensics and has developed curriculum and provided training to first responders, attorneys, and paralegals. He graduated from Charleston Southern University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and currently holds AccessData, Cellebrite, and CEDS Certifications. Rodney is also a licensed Private Investigator in South Carolina.
Rodney has extensive experience in court proceedings dealing with Digital Forensics and has been qualified as an “Expert Witness” in numerous state trials. He has testified in Federal, State and Municipal courts and has worked with attorneys (Prosecuting and Defense) in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, State Attorney General’s Office, State Attorney’s ICAC Division, Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester County Solicitor’s Offices along with several local Municipality Prosecutor’s Offices.
In 2015, Rodney was awarded the Knights of Columbus Officer of the Year for his contributions to police investigations involving Digital Forensics.
Rodney and his wife, Maewin, live in Goose Creek with their two daughters, Regan and Sophie, and their two dogs, Chili and Pepper.
Dean Fowler, Director of Operations, TN
Dean is the Director of Operations for the Nashville office of ESI Insight. His responsibilities include daily operations of the office and supporting clients with project management of Digital Forensic and E-Discovery services.
Prior to joining ESI Insight, he served 10 years as a police officer at the City of Charleston Police Department. During his time there he was a Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, Harbor Patrol Officer, Civil Disturbance Unit member, and a Driving Instructor.
He has a BS from the College of Charleston and a Master’s in Education from Southern Wesleyan University.
Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his wife, two boys, and all their pets. His current hobbies include a koi pond and handyman projects around the house.
Megan Wilcox, Business Development Manager
As a Business Development Manager at ESI Insight, Megan leads facilitation between the client and the ESI Insight team to provide the best solutions tailored to their individual cases. She has a passion for building relationships and works daily to maintain high levels of satisfaction for all current and future clients.
Prior to ESI Insight, Megan has an extensive background in Marketing where she worked with local and national clients to develop “out of the box” solutions to drive results and accomplish their goals. She is motivated by client’s success and brings this experience with her when confronted with the unique challenges that each matter holds.
Megan is a 2009 graduate of University of South Carolina where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, a major in Advertising and a minor in Business Administration.
Outside of work, Megan enjoys spending time with her husband, Matt, their son, Eli, and two dogs, Woody and Palmer. You can typically find them out on their boat, playing at the beach or exploring all that Charleston has to offer!
